Stark Beginnings

With the end of the Second World War, there was a sudden mass immigration from Mexico as the borders were left open and not regulated. With them came their practices and culture, of which one of them was the smoking and ingesting of cannabis substances. They used it both for medicinal as well as recreational purposes, and this had become a strong part of their culture. But the government felt that America would end up losing its identity and end up becoming an extension of Mexico and strongly repelled the idea of the drug. The media began manipulating the information going out to the public and began injecting false rumours that had no scientific backing whatsoever. The American people knew no better and happily ate what was fed to them. The Xenophobia began to fester and manifested to a fever pitch when protests began erupting across various part of America. The reason? The media said that ingesting or inhaling cannabis, which they now called as marijuana to bring home the idea of ‘alienism’, caused the user to go into a stage of primal bloodlust. Anybody who has taken cannabis would know that is all hot gas, as the best you can do is reach out for the remote or crave some chips if you do end up getting ‘high’.

With the people blindly agitated and angry, the government now had every reason to lockdown on marijuana and its derivatives like CBD. Laws were passed which put marijuana in a Scheduled Class I Drug list; with other jail mates in the likes of crystal meth and heroine. How any of this makes sense is beyond one’s comprehension.

A Ray Of Hope

But over the decades, the American people started coming to their senses and slowly but steadily, hemp derived CBD was considered legal under the Farm Act 2018. The fate of marijuana derived CBD is still up in the air, but we can be hopeful that things will change in times to come…
